The Coral REEF Laboratory operates the Coral Spawning and Experimentation of Anthropogenic Stressors facility, commonly called the "SEAS", at UNCW's Center for Marine Science. This approximately 900 sq ft building contains 4 coral spawning tanks, 1 dedicated coral recruit nursery raceway, 5 multi-use raceways for experiments, larval settlement, and recruit rearing, a dedicated tank used to grow crustose coralline algae (CCA) to facilitate coral larval settlement, and a 36-tank experimental system that can manipulate environmental parameters, such as temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen, and light. We create our own seawater in several 250 gallon vats. Our facility has 3 dissecting microscope set-ups that can take photographs of coral recruits for growth and survival.
